UPLIFTING HANDS ARE BROKEN HANDS
It has been well said that if you dig deep enough into the earth you
will find water, and if you search enough into a human heart you will
find tears. I shall never forget a dear lady who came to my bother
Johnny at the close of one of his sermons and said, "Johnny, it is
easy for you to preach. You have a nice suit of clothes, you have
preached around the world, you're before TV cameras with a weekly TV
program, but if you have problems like I have, you would not be able
to stand up and preach like you do. You see, I have a son who has
never spoken a word to me since birth and he is now in his twenties.
I am hurting!"
Johnny quickly began to tell her lovingly about his son who has had
brain damage since birth and also cannot live a normal life. He has
aphasia. Medical doctors can do nothing to help him.
The lady had tears in her eyes and apologized because she didn't know
Johnny and Kowanda's son was also handicapped and in their home is
sorrow, too.
So, you see, there are heartaches, everywhere but not despair -- God has
comforting answers for each of us in His divine Word. It is in the
valley of life that we grow strongest and become most helpful to others. You
can become a useful tool in the hands of the Master if you're hurting. [So
if you're hurting, please remember Johnny]. You may hurt today and help
tomorrow. This crushed world needs a helping hand.
Henry Moorhouse, the famed preacher, had a paralyze daughter. When the
birthday of the little girl's mother came, she had a gift purchased. When
Henry came home that night, she asked if she might take the gift
upstairs to her mother. The father looked at the crippled child and reminded
her that she could not even walk, let alone climb the stairs. But she said,
"But Daddy, if you carry me I can bring the gift to her."
That is what Jesus does for us. He carries us while we help someone else!
